Must be at least 10 years old to participate.
In my opinion age only determines how the correct information should be communicated. Regardless of the athletes age I do not teach my players to hit ground balls to second base, or bunt to move runners over. In today’s day an age, old school hitting instructors are a dying breed. Teaching every hitter to hit the same, using the same cues, “foot down early, stay inside, swing down, etc etc”. Not only do I not believe in these methods, I can prove why they are a thing of the past.
I will not change anything about the hitters individual style (ex: rhythm). I actually prefer to see the hitter in his natural environment. Our first session will be me and the hitter hitting together. I will get to know them on a more personal level, their thought process and watch them warm up and hit just like they would if I wasn’t there. I will then take some video of how they came to me. Their natural swing with out me changing anything about them. The worst thing a hitting instructor could possibly do is make changes to a hitter before fully evaluating their strengths and weaknesses. If your instructor does or did that, RUN!
Video analysis is a beautiful thing. Slo-motion video sees things that the human eye can not. At the end of the first session, I will take another video. With out a doubt, their will be significant improvements in the swing. Here’s some things I believe in; rear-word barrel action to get on plane early, rear-leg coil, separation with tightness, suddenness, extension, ferris wheel, and homers. If you don’t know or understand these terms. Do some research on the best hitters in the game. You will see what I’m talking about.
Let’s hit the ground running and move onto high school/college/pro ball with momentum. I specialize in hitting, infield, outfield, and catching. I was a catcher and corner infielder my first year in college. My second year I was an outfielder and corner infielder. My third and fourth year I was strictly a middle infielder. Going into my professional career I played both middle infield and outfield. My career has lead me in many different directions. Attending every baseball facility I could get to. Learning from current big leaguers, old timers, and guys down through independent ball. All in all, 3 things are universally known.
1.) If you can hit for power, your career in baseball is guaranteed.
2.) If you can hit for power consistently, your career in baseball is guaranteed to last longer.
3.) Sadly this game is political. It’s about who you know.
