More About Coach Alexis

I have been coaching lacrosse for 17 years. I have experience coaching a variety of other sports as well (field hockey, basketball, tennis, soccer, cross country) but lacrosse has been my constant. I have coached all ages ranging from 4 to 21 years of age. During college, I coached in the middle school girls division for Albany Elite Lacrosse Club (Albany, NY) and upon graduation from college, I was the assistant coach for the women's soccer and lacrosse teams at Division III school, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. In 2005, I accepted a job in Edinburgh, Scotland to build and develop the girls lacrosse program within 2 different boarding schools there: Loretto School and Fettes College. While I was there for 3 years, I was an assistant coach for the U-19 Women's Scotland National Lacrosse Team and had the amazing experience of coaching them through the 2007 World Championship Games in Peterborough, Canada. Since moving back from Scotland in 2009, I have been coaching in various capacities. I assisted a very successful Byram Hills varsity lacrosse program in Westchester, NY and was also hired to improve the development of the girls lacrosse program at Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, NY. I am currently entering my 6th year at Trinity School in New York City where I teach physical education and head up the girls' lacrosse program. When I started at Trinity, I inherited a team that had no more than 2 wins a season for the past 8 seasons. By my third year there, we went to our State Championship. Since I have been coaching there, we have been amongst the top 3 competitors in our league and the girls lacrosse program is the biggest girls program in the school. I have also been coaching for Snipers Elite Lacrosse Club out of Westchester, NY and have been coaching the 2021 team since 2014. Throughout my career, I have held a number of private lessons with individuals and small groups and I can work with any age group.

I grew up in Westchester, NY and played lacrosse at John Jay High School. I received a scholarship to play Division I lacrosse at the University at Albany where I was a 4-year starter, senior captain, and 2004 MVP. Upon graduation, I played for a club team based out of Albany, NY. When I lived in Scotland, I played for and captained the Edinburgh Thistle Lacrosse Club. I also played for the regional team, Home Scots, and was a member of the Senior Women's Scotland National Lacrosse Team (2007-2009). I still play in tournaments when I can with various club teams.

In the first session, I like to get a good understanding of what the client's goals are and what she is looking to get out of our time together. With that in mind, I like to spend the first five minutes of our time together talking about goals and how I plan to help her work towards reaching them, so that we are clear with one another and on the same page. From that point on, I typically like to begin each session with a dynamic warm-up followed by some ladder work with a stick and ball. After that, I would base the rest of the session on the needs of the client. For example, if I am training a defender, I may work on skills like picking up ground balls under pressure and getting off a good pass, dodging, footwork within and around the 8 meter arc, and on/off ball defensive body positioning. Each drill I use simulates real game situations, so the athlete can apply it to her game more easily. However, I am always very receptive to how the athlete is performing throughout the session. I always go in with a plan, but may find that she needs to work on one skill a little longer than another and will adjust my plan accordingly.
