More About Coach Alex
I am currently a elementary PE teacher in Richardson ISD. After high school, I pitched 4 years at the NCAA DII level and played and coached softball in Sweden for one summer. I also helped coach the Swedish National Team while overseas. I coached at the community college level for two years, where I was in charge of the pitching staff and the strength and conditioning program for the softball team. I have a Master's degree in Athletic Administration and have given pitching lessons for many years.
In college, I was the starting pitcher for three years. During my senior season, I earned 2 Gulf South Conference Pitcher of the Week awards as well as an All-Conference selection. My team, Arkansas Tech, was named the GSC West Division Conference Champions that year as well. After I graduated, I played and coached softball in Sweden for one summer.
My pitching philosophy is based on the correct movement and spin of pitches. Realistically, a young pitcher is probably not going to throw as hard as Jennie Finch, but she can fool the batter using mixed speeds, movement, and hitting spots. Based on the level of the pitcher, we will work on fundamentals of pitching and how to throw different pitches consistently. Charting pitches is also an important part of lessons so that we can track the pitchers' tendencies and improvements. I believe that creating game like situations is very important during practice as well.
