More About Coach Roderick

I have been training athletes in Boxing since 2015. I am a Certified Boxing Coach (bronze level) through USA Boxing. I have experience working the corner for fighters at boxing tournaments. This earned me the nickname "The Ice Man" in boxing circles. I train teenagers and adults who are interested in Boxing for competition or fitness. I am the author of the book "Winning in Combat Sports: Strategies & Tactics."

For ten years I have coached boxing in the Atlanta area, from group classes to the private one-on-one training I now specialize in, working with everyone from first-time beginners to competitive fighters. I am a Certified Boxing Coach through USA Boxing and the author of the book Winning in Combat Sports.

My boxing is grounded in years of training and sparring at Atlanta gyms including Eastside Boxing Club, where I also coached for many years, Delgado Boxing Gym, where I first sparred, Decatur Boxing Club, and Buckhead Fight Club, among others. I have worked the corner of fighters in boxing tournaments, I am a member of the Georgia Amateur Boxing Association ("GABA"), and along the way I even got a training session with Floyd Mayweather Sr.

Beyond boxing technique, I am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach through USA Boxing, a Certified Kettlebell Instructor through Dragon Door, and a Certified Sports Psychology Coach through the Spencer Institute. I am also SafeSport certified. Whether your goal is fitness, self-defense, or competition, every session is tailored to you.

A typical training session starts with general conditioning, e.g., shadowboxing, jumping rope, medicine ball work, calisthenics, plyometrics, and stretching. Then the trainee works on footwork and punching drills using focus mitts and body protectors. Offensive and defensive techniques are taught, as well as strategies and tactics for the ring. Training may include work on the heavy bag, double-end bag, speed bag, slip ball, and slip rope. Advanced trainees may engage in sparring drills and freestyle sparring.

Roderick is great. Technical, but practical. Good at explanation. Not just training how to use your limbs, but interested in making you stronger in practical ways. Would highly recommend.

I really enjoyed training with Coach Roderick. I can definitely say I haven’t had a workout like that since I left the military and that was only a light workout he did but he is definitely very accommodating to your fitness level and your goals.

This is not your typical flashy fancy martial arts session. Coach Roderick teaches practical, useful techniques that prepare you for real life situations. The training is direct, his techniques are affective , his experience is undeniable. If self defense is what you're looking for you won't find a better coach.
