More About Coach Ron

My name is Coach Ron Wilson and I know what it take to be one of the best, I am a former Nike All-American, McDonald's All-American Honorable Mention, Wake County Player of the Year and league MVP my senior year at Cardinal Gibbons high school in Raleigh, N.C. I earned a basketball scholarship to Villanova University where as starting power forward I helped the team to a N.I.T. Championship in 1994 and our first Big East title the following year. We finished the year 7th in country and earned a birth in the NCAA tournament as a Second seed.

After graduating with a degree in Political Science. I decided to play for the world famous Harlem Globetrotters and professionally in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

After retiring from basketball in 2000 I began coaching at Friends Central School and then for Holy Family University and Wilmington University before finally landing my first head coaching job at Chichester High School, Archmere Academy in Delaware and finally being an Athletic Director, P.E. teacher and Varsity Boys basketball coach for KIPP DuBois Collegiate Academy in North Philadelphia.

There are only a handful of coaches in this area that bring this type of experiences to the table. I am a very knowledgeable about the game of basketball; I have coached it at the high school level and the college level. I have played the game all through high school, college and I have had the privilege of playing it professionally. I also train players in the summer time to improve their skill level, through 1on 1 instruction.

A little about me I am a former McDonald's All-American honorable mention. In 1989 Top 100 player in the Country. I averaged a triple double my senior year of high school, 24 ppg. 15 rebs. and 11 blks per game. I was Wake County Player of the Year; and Nike Al-American. Against the #1 team in the nation Oak Hill; I scored 23 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and had 5 blocks. For the first time in my schools history we was able to lead my team to the state championship. Due to my teams efforts and my play I was able to receive a full scholarship to Villanova University.

While in college I sat the bench for two years only seeing the floor during blow outs. The summer before my junior year I created a workout routine that improved my strength, my basketball I.Q. and my overall skill level. Through my off-season efforts I was able to gain a spot in the starting rotation. Our team went on to play in the Arizona State tournament were former NBA star and teammate Kerry Kittles and myself made the All-tournament team. We went on to win the N.I.T. tournament and the BIG EAST tournament the following year. That year I was also awarded the BIG FIVE Most Improved Player by the Markwood Club. Upon graduation I played over seas in Finland, Switzerland, and the Philippines. Additionally I played two years with the World Famous Harlem Globetrotters. After that I returned to playing in Isreal, France and finally China.

After retiring I got into coaching and was an assistant coach at Friends Central School and was privileged enough to coach numerous D-1, D-2 and D-3 Players, and one NBA draft pick. I went on to coach at two Universities Holy Family and Wilmington were I helped develop multiple first team all-conference selections. I returned to the high school ranks where I continue to cultivate and develop college caliber student athletes.
